The International Regulator of Coaching and Mentoring CIC’s remit is simply to protect the Consumer.

.

How can the IRCM CIC fulfil its remit and vision?

Consumers

A consumer* is a person or organisation who buys (for a fee or bartered or pro-bono or free) a product or service for personal or professional development.

Consumers are the individuals and/or organisations who benefit from the services or products provided by individuals and/or organisations within the Coaching and Mentoring Industry.

Consumers are simply buyers, end-users, clients, customers, students, and members.  The IRCM CIC recognises that consumers can also be coaches, mentors, or owners/staff of coaching/mentoring organisations.

.

Coaches and/or MentorsThe most important industry individual is the Coach* and/or Mentor*.  Their remit is to provide each Consumer with the support they require through coaching* and/or mentoring*.

.

The IRCM CIC protects each Consumer by ensuring that:

  • every coach and/or mentor in the UK working with UK based clients is REGISTERED#.
  • every international coach and/or mentor working with UK based clients is REGISTERED#.

.

EducationTo determine the quality of the service provided, each Coach and/or Mentor is trained by one of two types of Education Bodies/Training Organisations:

  • Formal Education Bodies are simply training organisations that are government regulated and offer coach and/or mentor training and formally recognised qualifications.
    .
  • Private Commercial Training Organisations are commercial training organisations that have been set up by individuals to provide coach and/or mentor training.  Coaches and/or Mentors who provide training to their clients are also classed as Private Commercial Training Organisations.
.

The IRCM CIC protects each Consumer by ensuring that each Formal Education Body and Private Commercial Training Organisations is REGISTERED+.  It is important the coaching and/or mentoring student is trained by a Formal Education Body and Private Commercial Training Organisation that is REGISTERED+; as it is these coaching and/or mentoring students who, as Coaches and/or Mentors will be working with the client (see above).  Therefore,

  • Formal Education Bodies and Private Commercial Training Organisations in the UK who are training UK based coaches and/or mentors must be REGISTERED+.
  • Formal Education Bodies and Private Commercial Training Organisations outside the UK who are training UK based coaches and/or mentors must be REGISTERED+.
  • Formal Education Bodies and Private Commercial Training Organisations who are training coaches and/or mentors to work with UK based clients must be REGISTERED+.

.

Formal Education Bodies and Private Commercial Training Organisations who are REGISTERED with the IRCM CIC, include in their training all Codes of Conduct>, the Disciplinary Procedures>, and the Ombudsman Service>.

.

Professional BodiesAlthough not directly involved in the Consumers experience, the Professional Bodies play an important part in the competence* of each Coach and/or Mentor.

.

Professional Bodies simply verify through their Accreditation/Credentialing* processes, the competence of the:

  • Coaches and/or Mentors
  • Private Commercial Training Organisations.
The competence of Formal Education Bodies is verified through their countries government Education Department.

.

The IRCM CIC protects each Consumer by ensuring that every Professional Body:

  • in the UK who verifies, through their Accreditation/Credentialing* processes, coaches, mentors, and private commercial training organisations is REGISTERED^.
  • outside the UK who verifies, through their Accreditation/Credentialing* processes, UK based coaches, mentors, and private commercial training organisations is REGISTERED^.
  • outside the UK who verifies, through their Accreditation/Credentialing* processes, coaches, mentors, and private commercial training organisations from outside the UK, who work with UK based clients or train UK based students is REGISTERED^.
.

The IRCM CIC’s remit is to protect all consumers who are UK and British Overseas Territories residents; therefore, the IRCM CIC recommends all Professional Bodies REGISTER^ as they may not know who their coaches and mentors are working with; and who their private commercial training organisations are training; and who the indirect clients are of each student who trains with a private commercial organisation.
