International Regulator of Coaching and Mentoring, CIC
Professional Bodies Register

.

Professional Bodies are simply those organisations that support individual members (coaches, mentors, training organisations) who practice in or train in a profession or occupation.

The Professional Body supports its members with knowledge, skills, conduct and a grading of competence (accreditation/credential).  Professional Bodies can be one of the following – Academy, Accreditation Body, Association, Chartered, Faculty, Guild, Institute, Membership, Society, Support Group, Trade Body, or another similar type of definition.

This register provides details of all Professional Bodies, who demonstrate their commitment to excellence by including their organisation and members (coaches, mentors, training organisations) on the unified single transparent register for the benefit of all consumers.

In order that the consumers benefit from high quality services and products; the IRCM encourages all Professional Bodies in the coaching and mentoring industry to demonstrate their commitment to excellence by including their organisation and members (coaches, mentors, training organisations) on this register for the benefit of all consumers.

Each Professional Body included will be identified through one of three ways – ACCREDITED, REGISTERED, or LISTED; providing the consumers with a single place for transparency and openness so that they are able to complete their due-diligence and select their:

  • Professional Body – if they are a coach, mentor, or training organisation
  • Coach or Mentor – if they are a consumer looking for the support of a coach and/or mentor
  • Training Organisation – if they are an individual looking to learn coach and/or mentoring skills

IRCM REGISTER STATUS:

Accredited Professional Bodies are those organisations who are competent and provide a quality to the coaching and mentoring industry, and have:

  • agreed to abide by the IRCM’s
    • Unified Code of Industry Ethics,
    • Unified Industry Core Competencies,
    • Disciplinary Procedures,
    • and recognises the Ombudsman Service for consumers;
  • and who have successfully completed the IRCM’s independent verification.

These Professional Bodies demonstrate that they and their members have committed to building trust, confidence, and excellence in the coaching or mentoring industry through their inclusion on the register, and detailed involvement on the IRCM Steering Committee.

Registered Professional Bodies are those organisations who have agreed to abide by the IRCM’s:

  • Unified Code of Industry Ethics,
  • Unified Industry Core Competencies,
  • Disciplinary Procedures, and
  • recognises the Ombudsman Service for consumers.

These Professional Bodies demonstrate that they and their members have committed to building trust, confidence, and excellence in the coaching or mentoring industry through their inclusion in the register, and representation on the IRCM Steering Committee.

Listed by the IRCM provides the consumers with a list of all Professional Bodies trading in the coaching and mentoring industry who are not Registered or Accredited with the IRCM.

These organisations have been listed either during the IRCM’s independent search of the internet to discover exactly how many coaches, mentors, and organisations are currently trading; or by request.

These Professional Bodies may have selected not to confirm their details, register, or accredit with the IRCM and have not confirmed that they abide by the Unified Code of Industry Ethics, Unified Industry Core Competencies, Disciplinary Procedures, and recognise the Ombudsman Service for consumers.

TRADING:

Coach clarifies to the consumer which service or services this Professional Organisation supports.  This Professional Organisation supports individuals who work as coaches, and training organisations who train individuals to become coaches through learning mentoring skills, tools, techniques, etc.

Although it is generally the members of these bodies who are the consumers; it is important for all types of consumers to be clear about the service or services the Professional Body provides in the coaching and mentoring industry, so that they are aware of the validation through credential/accreditation/other status allocated to the individual they select as their coach, or training company they select to train with.

Mentor clarifies to the consumer which service or services this Professional Organisation supports.  This Professional Organisation supports individuals who work as mentors, and training organisations who train individuals to become mentors through learning mentoring skills, tools, techniques, etc.

Coach and Mentor clarifies to the consumer which service or services this Professional Organisation supports.  This Professional Organisation supports individuals who work as coaches and mentors, and training organisations who train individuals to become coaches and mentors through learning mentoring skills, tools, techniques, etc.

It is important to be aware of the skills being offered by the individual or courses/workshops being offered by the training organisations; as the definitions of these two elements of this industry provide the end-user consumer with different services.

Currently Trading confirms whether the Professional Organisation is still trading.

This is important for the end-user consumer, as the coach, mentor, or training organisation may still be promoting their membership or accreditation/credential with the Professional Body.

Insured demonstrates that the Professional Organisation has valid Professional Indemnity Insurance.

It is recognised that not every country recognises Professional Indemnity Insurance, but it is the recommendation of the IRCM that all Professional Organisation have valid Professional Indemnity Insurance.

OTHERS:

There are a number of different types of organisations that can be represented as Professional Bodies in the coaching and mentoring industry:

  • Academy
  • Accreditation Body
Accreditation Bodies hold approval from one of the following: Department of Business, Innovation & Skills; United Kingdom Accreditation Service; European Accreditation; European Commission Accreditation Conformity; or similar from outside the UK/EU.
  • Association
  • Chartered
The authority to be recognised as Chartered comes from the Royal Prerogative, (the grant is made by the Sovereign (on the advice of the Privy Council)).  Having gained recognition, the Chartered Organisations are subject to the general law, generally self-regulating and not answerable to the Privy Council or the Privy Council Office in relation to the conduct of its internal affairs.
  • Faculty
  • Guild
  • Institute
  • Membership
  • Society
  • Support Group
  • Trade Body
  • or another similar type of definition.

The IRCM’s Star System is based on facts provided by the consumers; who, in this case, are the members (coaches, mentors, training organisations) of the Professional Body.

With so many Professional Organisations representing themselves in the coaching and mentoring industry; the consumers are having challenges finding the right Professional Organisation to join.  It can also be difficult for the coaches, mentors, and training organisations (in other words, consumers) wanting to join; to understand the difference between the different products that are offered.

Star Ratings are provided by the consumers.  They are not a validation of the service or services provided but are simply the opinion of another person who has used the service or services offered by the Professional Organisation.  It is the recommendation of the IRCM, for any Professional Organisation joined; that the consumer has done their own due-diligence.

The IRCM encourages the clients and students of the Professional Body members to provide input into the IRCM’s Star System.
