Introduction

The IRCM CIC’s remit is to ensure that the consumers benefit from the services and products available in the coaching and mentoring industry.  To achieve this, the IRCM CIC partners with all genuine coaches, mentors, education/training, and coaching/mentoring organisations to raise the professionalism of the coaching and mentoring industry.

As part of your Due-Diligence, the following is recommended:

As a client wishing to benefit from the services of a coach and/or mentor, we recommend that you check their professional status by:

  • verifying their competence through:
  • where the competence cannot be verified, and the qualification (training) has not been independently verified by one or more IRCM CIC Registered or Accredited Professional Bodies, the Coaches and/or Mentors qualification can be verified:
    • through a Formal Education Body who has an IRCM CIC Registered status, or
    • through a Private Commercial Training Company who has an IRCM CIC Registered status and who has gained an independent accreditation/credential with an IRCM CIC Registered or Accredited Professional Body.
  • researching the coach/mentors background and coaching and/or mentoring experience.
  • following up references and/or testimonials provided.
    Although often it is only the positive references and/or testimonials that will be provided, it is important to follow them up and ask the individual about their experience.
  • confirming that the Coach and/or Mentor abides by the IRCM CIC’s Codes of Conduct and recognises the IRCM CIC’s Ombudsman Service.

As a person wishing to benefit from the training offered by a Formal Education Body (University, College, School), we recommend that you check their competence and quality:

  • by verifying their REGISTRATION on the IRCM’s Education Directory.
  • by verifying the course/workshops creators/authors competence
    • competence is verified through the course material and methods used to assess your final qualification.
    • research the course/workshop creators/authors backgroundcompetence, and coaching and/or mentoring experience.
    • whether the course/workshops author(s) is REGISTERED on the IRCM’s Individual Suppliers Directory and accredited/credentialed by one or more IRCM REGISTERED or ACCREDITED Professional Bodies.
  • by verifying the quality through course/workshop.
    • quality is verified through the faculty (tutors/trainers/teachers) used to train the students.
    • Are the tutor’s  REGISTERED on the IRCM’s Individual Suppliers Directory and accredited/credentialed by one or more IRCM REGISTERED or ACCREDITED Professional Body?
  • understanding the Formal Education Body government Education Department approval of this University, College, or Schoo.
  • should you have a recourse to use it, understanding the Complaints process.
  • asking how many students have applied for the course/workshop and how many have qualified.
  • requesting competence and qualification of the course/workshop creator/author and all faculty members.
  • following up references and/or testimonials provided.

Does this Formal Education Body abide by and include in their courses/workshops, the IRCM’s Codes of Conduct?

  • unified Code of Industry Ethics,
  • unified Core Competencies,
  • Disciplinary Procedures, and
  • recognising the Ombudsman Service.

As a person wishing to benefit from the training offered by a Private Commercial Training Company, we recommend that you check their competence and quality:

  • by verifying their REGISTRATION on the IRCM’s Education Directory.
  • by verifying the course/workshops creators/authors competence
    • competence is verified through the course material and methods used to assess your final qualification.
    • research the course/workshop creators/authors backgroundcompetence, and coaching and/or mentoring experience.
    • whether the course/workshops author(s) is REGISTERED on the IRCM’s Individual Suppliers Directory and accredited/credentialed by one or more IRCM REGISTERED or ACCREDITED Professional Bodies.
  • by verifying the quality through course/workshop.
    • quality is verified through the faculty (tutors/trainers/teachers) used to train the students.
    • Are the tutor’s  REGISTERED on the IRCM’s Individual Suppliers Directory and accredited/credentialed by one or more IRCM REGISTERED or ACCREDITED Professional Body?

  • understanding the Legal Entity structure of the company.

Does this Private Commercial Training Company abide by and include the IRCM’s Codes of Conduct?

As a person wishing to benefit from the training offered by an Individual Supplier (Coach or Mentor), we recommend that you check their competence and quality:

  • by verifying the course/workshops creators/authors competence
    • competence is verified through the course material and methods used to assess your final qualification.
    • research the course/workshop creators/authors backgroundcompetence, and coaching and/or mentoring experience.
    • whether the course/workshops author(s) is REGISTERED on the IRCM’s Individual Suppliers Directory and accredited/credentialed by one or more IRCM REGISTERED or ACCREDITED Professional Bodies.
  • by verifying the quality through course/workshop.

As a Coach, Mentor, or individual interested in Coaching and/or Mentoring wishing to benefit from the accreditation/credential and support offered by an IRCM REGISTERED or ACCREDITED Professional Body, we recommend that you check their validity:

  • has this Professional Body gained ACCREDITATION with the IRCM?
  • is this Professional Body REGISTERED with the IRCM?
  • if this Professional Body is registered with the IRCM, how have their defined their accreditation/credential standards?
  • what competence and qualification does the accrediting/credentialing team hold?
    – ask about the accreditation/credential team’s background and coaching and/or mentoring experience.
    – ask how this team was selected.
  • what is the Legal Entity structure of the company?
  • research other members and how they have benefited.
  • what Continuing Professional Development does this Professional Body provide?
  • what industry support does this Professional Body provide?
  • what other support does this Professional Body provide?
  • ask about the team’s background and coaching and/or mentoring experience of those providing Continuing Professional Development and/or Industry Support.
  • follow up references and/or testimonials provided.

Does this Professional Body abide by and include the IRCM’s Codes of Conduct?

  • unified Code of Industry Ethics,
  • unified Core Competencies,
  • Disciplinary Procedures, and
  • recognising the Ombudsman Service.

ACCREDITATION with the IRCM provides an additional level of verification for Professional Bodies who have successfully completed the IRCM’s independent verification by demonstrating a transparency and openness about their policies, processes, and procedures.

There may be the situation where organisations and individuals use the IRCM’s logo without approval or incorrectly.

We recommend that you confirm the details on the relevant IRCM Directory prior to starting your due-diligence and contracting for the service.
